Hello again. Riley turned 1 three weeks ago. I can't believe how fast the year has gone. We had a party at the house for her, some kids lots of adults and her first taste of chocolate cake. She was rather subdued with it all things considered. Riley is also walking now. She started about a week before her first birthday and is now working on her running abilities. We're in for some trouble.
We also got her 1 year photos done and they turned out quite well. Visit our photo section to see!

Hello everyone. Just a quick update. Riley made her TV debut on Tuesday night. A reporter from Vancouver came out to Abbotsford to our Sign and Sing class, and somehow little-miss-camera-hog became the star of the segment. Click the image below to watch. Blair's complaining because somehow his beard got dragged into it. Apparently I wasn't staying "on message".

Happy New Year! After months of being ignored, I'm finally going to update Riley's site. We've been really busy here. We're actually now living in Abbotsford with Heather's mom, who we are very grateful to for providing some daytime nannying so I can get some work done.
Our townhouse is STILL not done. The completion date has been pushed back to "early 2nd Quarter 2006". Ugh. We're hoping to be moved in before Riley's first birthday.
And speaking of little miss R, she's doing wonderfully. She's currently 8.5 months old and growing like a weed. She's at 90th percentile for weight and 97th percentile for height. She's crawling, starting to talk, and just last weekend she pulled herself up into a standing position in her crib while Grandma and Grandpa Purda were babysitting. I fear it won't be long until she's walking. We're scared as she's already into everything she's not supposed to and can go like the wind doing her modified commando crawl. We started on solid foods a few months ago and her favourite thing is apples. Apple juice, apple sauce, apple cereal, pieces of apple, whatever. Although yogurt, which we just introduced, is making a strong initial showing and may become her favorite. She's also had a range of cereals, lots of veggies, fruits, dessert tofu, potatoes, lentils, and pasta (cute Astrini I picked up at an italian grocery on commercial drive).
In other exciting news, Riley will soon have another cousin - Blair's sister and brother-in-law are expecting a boy. Their due date is sometime at the end of April or early May, so it's possible that Riley will have to share her birthday with her new cousin.
We're starting school next week as well. On Wednesdays we'll be doing "Sign and Sing", where we learn baby sign language set to music. Then on Tuesdays and Fridays we're doing a mummy/baby excercise program. I'm looking forward to having Riley spend some time with other babies.
As always, I've updated the photos section with some new pictures. She's getting so big! and chubby!
The past 2 months have been crazy. We found out about the transfer shortly after the last post on this website, at which point we had to list and sell our house in Winnipeg. Then Heather's dad unexpectedly passed away on July 29th, so Riley got her first plane ride as all 3 of us packed up and flew to Abbotsford for a week. Then back to Winnipeg to pack (with lots of help from both H's Mom and Blair's Dad) and arrange professional movers. We left Winnipeg on Saturday, September 3rd and arrived in White Rock on Tuesday, September 6th.
See the photo gallery of this trip here!
Riley is now 4 months old - her 4 month b-day was on September 6th. She's getting really big. We had a checkup on Aug 30th before we left Winnipeg, and she was 15.5 lbs and 24.5 inches long. She's now able to roll from her front to her back and from her back to her side. It won't be long until she can roll completely over. She's also pretty good at sitting up, if you put her in a sitting position, she's quite happy to stay that way for a while.
Here's hoping there will be more frequent updates now that we're somewhat settled in!

Riley's professional photos from 4 weeks old have arrived. I've scanned a few of my favourites and posted them in the photos section. This one is my complete favourite of the bunch.
It's amazing how much she's changed since 4 weeks old.
Anyhow, go visit the photos section to see more of these...
She's recently discovered her hands and how to use them. She's playing a lot with her rattles and toys, plus she's got her hands in her mouth constantly. Another favourite is to grab the hem of her shirt and pull it up to expose her belly. She's "talking" quite a bit as well, which leads to a fair amount of drooling.
At the last doctor's appointment (8 weeks), she was 11.5 lbs and 24 inches long. Apparently above average on both counts. She also took her shots like a trouper, cried only for about a minute and then was done.
I made a little movie of her in action, so click the still below to watch. It's about 6 MB so give it a while to load. Also put a few more photos in her photo section.
Regina also reminded me that our digital still camera can take small movies!
Click on the picture to see a movie of Riley talking - there's no sound, but imagine she's saying "hi" over and over. It's in quicktime format (.MOV) and if you don't have quicktime you can download it from Apple (will run on both macs and pcs).
Riley will be 8 weeks old this Friday, and 2 months old next Wednesday. It's hard to believe. We have her first set of immunizations on Monday next week, which I'm not looking forward to.
We also got to see the proofs from the professional photographer who came when she was 4 weeks old, and of course they were super cute so we ordered a bunch of 5x7s. I will scan and post those once they arrive.
Riley also got a Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Cradle Swing on the weekend -- and she loves it. It's a great swing with a bunch of speeds, a built in lightshow and mobile, music and/or water sounds, plus it swings either side-to-side or front-to-back. She's already had quite a few naps in it and it's super for rocking her to sleep at the end of the day. Yesterday she saw the fish mobile for the first time and was talking away to the fish for a good 10 minutes. Cute.
June 6, 2005:
Today is Riley's one-month birthday. It's hard to believe. We had a pretty uneventful day, except that Riley saved up a nice poo-bomb for Blair just in time for him to come home from work.
A couple of new photos have been updated in the photos section - including a side-by-side comparison of Riley and Heather, both at age 4 weeks. We originally thought there wasn't much resemblance to me, but the baby photos look pretty similar. Also, Jennie camper dropped by a couple of days ago and brought Riley her new favourite toy - a stuffed duck by Steiff, who we've named Almondo.
List of her nicknames to date:
Riley the Terrible (when she's colicky)
Rootin' Tootin' Riley (when she farts herself awake, somehow this is cute and
funny)
Stinky Campbell (when she drops the poo bomb)
Smiley Riley (we're seeing her more and more now)
Stay tuned for more updates!
For those that want the gory details, labour is hard. Really hard. They tell you in pre-natal classes how hard it is, but it's WAY harder than that. We were in labour from first contraction to birth probably about 36 hours. Of course, my epidurals didn't take (I had 2 of them) so it was also super painful. But still, the prize at the end is well worth it. There were a couple of tense moments where there was talk of C-section or vacuum birth, neither of which I wanted, so I somehow managed to push her out. Turns out she had her hand up beside her head, which was why it was so difficult.
In any case, we're both doing well and I've put a bunch of new photos up on the photo page so you all can revel in her cuteness (which increases by the day).
I'll post some more details once I'm a bit more rested.
Check out the photos section for images of the nursery, my huge belly and more...
